Total Quality Management (TQM)

1 . There is no educational institution under the sun that can claim itself to be infallible. Failings and shortfalls are natural to all human efforts. To reach a phase of comparative strength, we first need to be conscious of our weaknesses. When we cultivate an internal system of quality assessment, we know where we stand. This knowledge is the fulcrum on which all personal and institutional development is poised. The institution gears all its academic and administrative units to achieve its different goals and objectives by implementing each separate plan. Here, plan implies the conscious decesion to achieve a particular goal/objective on the basis of a comprehensive survey of the institution at both micro and macro levels. Such plans are designed by the different academic and administrative units of the college. These are always in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University and the State Government and also approved by the G.B. These plans are both for maintenance and all round development.

2 . The College follows the principles of democracy, decentralized management and team spirit. Besides the Governing Body, there are other bodies like Development Committee, Finance Committee, Academic Committee, Library Committee and Teachers' Council. There are sub-committees of Teachers' Council, such as, Examination Sub-Committee, Routine Sub-Committee, Sports & Games Sub-Committee, Cultural Sub-Committee, Teachers' Welfare (Services) Sub-Committee and Teachers' Welfare (Finance) Sub-Committee. There are two separate associations like Non-Teaching Staff Employees' Association and Students' Union. Through the process of cooperation and coordination among all these, specific goals and objectives for a sustainable development of the College is realized.

The Principal/Teacher-in-Charge is always vigilant in monitoring the nature of progress in different fields/aspects at regular intervals. If any sort of hindrance is observed in the way of implementation of any objective, necessary measures are immediately adopted. Every financial aspect and every component of the College need to undergo periodic quality checks to impart its obligations in an increasingly better way. The adoption of this mechanism in our College has since witnessed some wholesome effects.

The institution ensures the quality of its academic programmes by means of holding classes regularly in accordance with the routine and academic calendar, conducting continuous assessment of students, offering personal counselling to students of different abilities, etc.

3 . Quality of classroom teaching by individual teachers of various subjects is analyzed and evaluated by students in a questionnaire modelled on a proforma supplied by NAAC. Students are encouraged to express frankly their opinions touching on the teachers' points of strength and limitation. The Academic Committee, in presence of the Principal/Teacher-in-Charge, analyses students' responses and take follow-up measures wherever needed. The students, on their part, sit for internal tests and examinations through their tenure, departmental teachers scrutinize scripts, point out shortcomings and suggest improvements.

4. The process of internal quality check is no less relevant to administration and finance. The Governing Body of the College is the supreme watchdog in constant vigil over all administrative and financial deals and decisions; our regular internal audit system complements and reinforces the quality control mechanism.

The College is acutely sensitive to latest managerial concepts in all the respects relevant to an educational institution. Strategic plans devised by the Governing Body are executed by various committees coordinating different segments of the College. In determining academic strategies for consolidation and expansion, the aspiration of the society, the recent urges in national and international educational scenario, the State Government's current policy in the field of higher education and last but not the least, the updated demands of the students and their guardians are all given due consideration. Implementation of the programmes for the educational uplift of the College, however, depends on such crucial factors like our own ability and sufficiency, the programme's viability and its practical import in career orientation. Anyhow, the members of implementing committees think and work together to arrive at the best possible conclusions. The onus of performing the function of linking the diverse strata of work-force lies with the most important common character, the Principal / Teacher-in-Charge.

The College follows a precise map in matters of decision taking--the points, the areas under control and the extent of authority, the whole lay-out exactly in keeping with the latest in management concept. Our sincere endeavor is to speed up the twin tasks of taking decision and implementing it. At the same time, we see to it that the decisions are taken on the basis of unanimity among all participants only to ensure total involvement of the decision-makers in policy framing and the discharge of it. This is why, we have representatives from all components in the decision-making bodies and committees.

We have been striving towards fulfilling our vision of integrating all works of all sections of the College under one information system. We have already progressed much in computerizing works of different academic departments, the central library and the office. Once completed, the networks assure instant interconnectivity between the important segments and also facilitate the process of quick dissemination of information in situations of exigency.
