Facilities at Netaji Nagar Day College
The syllabi of various study-programmes are determined by the affiliating university. The departments, as part of innovative teaching plan, frames modular academic calendars at the outset of each session. It has now bech decided to distribute these calendars to students at the time of their initiation to various courses of study to make their understanding of the programmes clear from the very beginning of the session. Such a system of distribution of academic calendars to students is expected to begin from the 2007-08 session on account of frequent changes in syllabi and examination on system by the University in the years 2005-06 and 2006-07.
The modular division of syllabi of programmes enables the teachers to maintain smooth teaching schedule through the academic sessions. The non-practical subjects are naturally dependent on lecture-method of teaching, as the learner-centred method can be followed in practical-based subjects. But we try to transform passive listeners into active participants by encouraging them to interact in discussion classes, to actively participate in seminars and write articles for magazines.
So far the use of teaching aids are concerned, we have been trying to offer the students the best of facilities within our limited resources. There is not yet any arrangement for participatory learning activities in the College.
Our students of Commerce already enjoy the benefits of computer with CD Players and Writers, Overhead and LCD Projectors, and students of both Arts and Commerce enjoy the teaching through the use of microphones in big classrooms. Initiation of Local Area Network connecting all departmental computers is being discussed and may be a reality in near future.

We are surely one of the rare Undergraduate Colleges in the whole state which can reasonably claim precedence in setting up open-access facility in the central library. Separate reading room facilities for students and teachers have been arranged. Most of the activities of the library have already been computerized; the remaining one or two are in the process of being so. Add to all these, under the auspices of the U.G.C. Net Scheme, the library now is equipped with internet-surfing facility and provides the same to both students, teachers and non-teaching staff.
In all the subjects of all the courses taught in the College, there is the practice of conducting tutorial interactive classes for the students.
The teacher in charge of each subject, monitors the academic process of each student by continuous assessment of students through class tests and periodic examinations, tutorial classes as remedial measures for students, Students-Teacher meets, discussions on constraints observed in the way of promoting academic standard of each student as well as of the department as a whole.
The details of the course by sessions of work assigned and to be implemented in the academic session are mentioned in the Academic Calendars of different departments.
The students and faculty keep pace with recent developments in the subject by the use of books and journals in the library in the College as well as well as other institutional libraries. Some of us also use internet.
The College has the Central Library for the purpose of use by all the departments. The separate departmental libraries are yet to be set up for all departments as the shortage of space and fund-crunch appear to be the most important constraint in its way. Till now, only the Department of Commerce could successfully operate the departmental library.
The working hours of the Central Library of the College have always been scheduled during the working hours of the College, i.e., from 10-30 A.M. to 5-30 P.M. Students mainly use the Library during their off periods on class days and during the summer and winter recesses.
